The Hefty Lantern is the most expansive standard iteration in the Noun Lantern Collection. Measuring 1200mm wide by 1200mm tall and 900mm deep. With its generous footprint and curving, barrel-like form, it amplifies the collection’s core themes of material tension, transparency, and light behavior at a larger, more immersive scale.
With more surface area and internal volume, the lantern offers the richest canvas for light projection in the series. Shadows deepen, stretch, and shift more dramatically, creating a heightened sense of spatial atmosphere.
The barrel-like geometry enhances this effect, curving light and shadow across the surface in a continuous, flowing rhythm. The form invites movement around it, changing with angle, time of day, and distance. It becomes less an object in space, and more a space-defining presence.
Despite its size, the Hefty Lantern maintains the same balance between precision and unpredictability. The engineered frame provides strength and modularity, while the textile skin resists exact control, settling according to the tension of the frame and the behavior of the material itself.
Ideal for larger interiors, open-plan environments, or installations requiring visual weight, the Hefty Lantern serves not just as a light source but as a sculptural focal point—defining volume, casting shadow, and reshaping spatial perception.
As with all Noun Lanterns, it is handcrafted in the Any Minute Now workshop in Melbourne.
